More Than Just a Race
Wispy brought the #89 GR Aetherwing Toyota home third in the UARL Season 5 Daytona 500, helping Avery Motorsports secure a 1-2 finish and setting the tone for a promising AVM and GR Aetherwing alliance.
Sometimes the biggest story is not just who wins. Sometimes it is how the finish gets built.
The UARL Season 5 Daytona 500 delivered a showcase of strategy, speed, and cooperation, ending with a dominant Avery Motorsports 1-2 finish and a podium result for Wispy in the #89 GR Aetherwing Toyota.
Plarker, driving the #15 Ford, took the victory in the Great American Race. His Avery Motorsports teammate Cody brought the #60 Ford home second, while Wispy completed the podium in third for GR Aetherwing eMotorsports.
As the race entered its final stage, a three-car breakaway formed at the front. Plarker, Cody, and Wispy separated themselves from the rest of the field, using the draft to build a commanding gap and control the race from the front.
The race’s defining moment came during the final green-flag pit cycle. All three leaders hit pit road together, but Cody suffered an issue in the pit box, breaking up the dominant three-car draft. Plarker cycled out cleanly and immediately began opening a large advantage.
Wispy exited pit road ahead of Cody, but instead of driving away, he made a team-minded decision. He lifted off the throttle after pit exit, allowing Cody to catch back up so the two could form a tandem and chase down the leader together.
Once linked together, Wispy led the charge while Cody stayed tucked to his bumper. The two-car tandem had the pace to run Plarker down, but the draft picture ahead complicated the chase.
Nico, Wispy’s GR Aetherwing teammate in the #81 Toyota, was on the lead lap while saving fuel and ended up positioned in a way that gave Plarker a slight aerodynamic tow. That small assist helped the #15 maintain enough cushion to stay clear of the charging duo.
As the white flag flew, Plarker was safely ahead and on his way to the Daytona 500 victory. Behind him, second place came down to the final corners.
Entering Turn 3 on the final lap, Wispy made a calculated and selfless move. After leading the tandem pursuit, he pulled out of line and lifted just enough to allow Cody to slip by and secure second place.
The move sealed a 1-2 finish for Avery Motorsports, while Wispy crossed the line third to complete a podium run for GR Aetherwing. It was a result built on patience, racecraft, and a bigger-picture view of what the new AVM and GR Aetherwing alliance could become.
Wispy’s third-place finish was more than a podium. It was a statement about how GR Aetherwing wanted to race: smart, patient, and willing to think beyond one car when the bigger picture called for it.
The result gave Avery Motorsports a Daytona 500 1-2 finish, gave GR Aetherwing a strong Season 5 opening result, and immediately turned the AVM and GR Aetherwing connection into one of the early storylines of the UARL season.
