Avery Motorsports Secures 1-2 at UARL S5 Daytona 500; Wispy Takes P3 to Kick Off Promising AVM & GR Aetherwing Alliance
DAYTONA BEACH — The UARL Season 5 Daytona 500 delivered a phenomenal showcase of strategy and speed, culminating in a dominant performance for Avery Motorsports (AVM) and setting the stage for what promises to be a brilliant season-long partnership between AVM and GR Aetherwing eMotorsports.
Plarker, driving the #15 Ford, cruised to a commanding victory in the Great American Race. Teammate Cody in the #60 Ford secured second place, while Wispy, piloting the #89 Toyota, brought home a hard-fought third-place podium finish for GR Aetherwing, solidifying a powerful alliance between himself and Cody on the track.
The Final Stage: A Costly Pit Cycle
As the race entered its crucial final stage, a three-car breakaway formed at the front of the pack. The AVM Fords of Plarker and Cody were joined by Wispy's #89 GR Aetherwing Toyota, setting a blistering pace and distancing themselves from the rest of the field.
The race's defining moment arrived during the final cycle of green-flag pit stops. The trio hit pit road together, aiming to maintain their stronghold at the front. However, trouble struck the #60 AVM crew. Cody suffered an issue in the pit box, fracturing the dominant three-car draft.
With a flawless stop, Plarker cycled out onto the track alone, instantly building a massive gap over the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Wispy had a clean exit but Cody was delayed, changing the dynamic of the chase entirely.
The Chase and Nico's Influence
Emerging from pit road ahead of the #60, Wispy made a crucial, team-minded decision. Recognizing the bigger picture, the GR Aetherwing driver lifted off the throttle right after the pit exit, sacrificing track time to allow Cody to catch up.
Once the two linked up, Cody stayed tucked securely behind Wispy's rear bumper for the entirety of the pursuit. With Wispy leading the charge, the two-car tandem laid down incredible lap times and had the sheer speed to run Plarker down. They would have caught the #15 car, but the pursuit was ultimately thwarted by the draft dynamic ahead. Nico, Wispy's GR Aetherwing teammate in the #81 Toyota, was running fully on the lead lap but in heavy fuel-saving mode, and ended up positioned perfectly to give Plarker an ever-so-slight aerodynamic tow. That marginal assist from the lead-lap competitor was just enough for Plarker to maintain an 8-second cushion over the hard-charging duo.
Turn 3 Decision Seals the 1-2
As the white flag flew, Plarker was safely ahead, preparing to cross the finish line and claim the Harley J. Earl trophy. Meanwhile, the battle for second came down to the final corners.
Diving into Turn 3 on the last lap, Wispy—who had spearheaded the tandem the entire run—made a calculated and selfless move. Honoring the drafting effort they had shared and recognizing the strength of their newly formed partnership, Wispy pulled out of line and lifted off the throttle just enough to let Cody slip by.
The maneuver allowed Cody to cleanly capture second place, sealing a dominant 1-2 finish for Avery Motorsports and the blue oval. Just behind him, Wispy crossed the line to bring the #89 GR Aetherwing eMotorsports machine home in third. It was a brilliantly executed race by Wispy, navigating a chaotic pit cycle, orchestrating a flawless tandem draft, and making a split-second decision that kicks off what is sure to be a highly successful alliance between AVM and GR Aetherwing for the rest of Season 5.
Post-Race Reactions
Following the race, both drivers reflected on the thrilling conclusion and the teamwork that defined the closing laps.
Despite missing out on the win after the pit road stumble, Cody was pleased with the team result and the hard racing to the line. “I enjoyed battling Wispy at the end there,” Cody said. “Strategy didn’t work for the #60 team. Glad AM got a 1-2 and looking forward to next race.”
For Wispy, the podium finish was less about individual glory and more about establishing a cooperative foundation moving forward. “I’m glad that there are people who care about helping others rather than just helping themselves,” Wispy explained after the race. “A 1-2 finish for a team is much more important than a good finish for your own team by yourself. I’m glad to have been a part of something great and I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season!”
